PETALING JAYA: Police may on Friday record former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s statement over the alleged defamatory statements he made against Umno leaders.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said yesterday the former premier had indicated that he would meet police tentatively on Nov 6.

“The tentative date given by Tun is Nov 6,” Khalid told the Sun when contacted.

Police had said Mahathir is being probed under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation.

This was in relation to his statements made at the Bersih 4 rally, where Mahathir showed up on Aug 29 and 30, and accused Umno division leaders of taking bribes, the police said.
