Rela Honorary Club praised for charity

KUALA LUMPUR: The People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) Honorary Club has earned praise for donating over RM100,000 to various charities this year.

Speaking at the charity dinner held on Oct 30 at Wisma MCA, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai commended Rela for doing a good job in handling the 2014 floods, and assisting the Nepal earthquake victims with donations.

He also expressed hope that more women, particular­ly from the Chinese community, would join Rela and provide community services to the people.

Liow, who holds the rank of deputy chief commission­er in Rela, also donated RM20,000 to the Rela Honorary Club of Kuala Lumpur and a laptop to Rela Wilayah Persekutua­n Kuala Lumpur, which was received by its assistant commission­er Majid Haji Mustapha.

Other guests present included Rela honorary deputy commission­er and club adviser Datuk Seri Michael Chong, and Rela KL chairman Datuk K. K. Chai.

They were entertaine­d with Shaolin Kung Fu performanc­es and cultural dances during the dinner.
