HIGH ACHIEVERS At WIT’s business school, students are rewarded when they excel. Their achievements are acknowledged during the Annual Recognition Awards Ceremony, which also serves as a platform to pay tribute to the students on the Dean’s List, who make up the top 5% highest performers in the School of Business, achieving first class honours in their continuing studies.
For the academic year of 2014/15, 67 students pursuing this business programme received awards at the Annual Recognition Awards Ceremony. Of these, 19 (25%) were international and European students. However, Seen Mun Chung ( pix, fourth from left), a former student of SMJK Ave Maria Convent in Ipoh was one of the award recipients.
OUTSTANDING MALAYSIANS Seen is reading a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting at WIT and is president of the Malaysian Society. Besides securing a spot in the Dean’s List, she has also been awarded the Rowe Medal as well as the CIMA Management Accounting Prize for achieving the highest overall results across the School of Business and the highest management accounting mark, respectively.
“Seen has been a great addition to the programme. Apart from being very strong academically, she is also an excellent contributor in class and has been very generous with her time when it comes to the other students. She is a worthy recipient of the Rowe Medal,” said course leader Paul Treacy.
The AIB Centre for Finance & Business Research Best Academic Paper Award recognises students for excellence in their research dissertations in the disciplines of accounting, economics and finance. This year, the award went to Malaysian transfer student Gan Tyng Pang, also known as Kenson, from WIT’s partner university TAR University College. Kenson will graduate from WIT with a Bachelor of Arts (1st class honours) in Finance & Investment. He presented a paper titled “An analysis of dividend policy on Malaysian companies: case of consumer goods sector – 2008 to 2012”. EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE AIB Centre for Finance & Business Research Awards coordinator Dr Sheila O’Donoghue who has supervised Gan in his research, was impressed with his diligence and ability to work with 313 firms in the short span of five years.
