Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension
RYAN (Murray) and Emily (Shaw) are preparing for Christmas with their daughter Leila (Ivy) in their new spacious house.
They are joined by Ryan’s brother Mike (Dan Gill) and Emily’s best friend Skylar (Olivia Taylor Dudley).
Ryan and Mike discover a box containing an old camcorder that records strange apparitions lurking around the house, and old tapes containing recordings from 1988 of two young girls, Katie and Kristi, working on their psychic abilities with a mysterious man.
Soon, the family notices that Leila has a new imaginary friend called Toby, and he encourages her to perform rituals like playing Bloody Mary, burning the Bible, burying the rosary, and drawing witchcraft symbols.
It’s not too long before they learn that Leila has been chosen to be part of The Midwives cult.
This sixth Paranormal Activity film, marks the end to the longstanding supernatural horror saga by Plotkin. Fans can expect to see more of young Katie and Kristi, but will be disappointed that the lingering questions about Toby remain unanswered.
This last edition is mostly laden with clichéd spookiness – sudden loud thumps, creaking doors in dark rooms, and jumpy horizontal lines on the video recordings.
But I have to admit Leila is undoubtedly scary.
The film had potential to succeed because the beginning managed to tie in very well with the Paranormal Activity lore, but sadly there were no follow-ups.
This supposedly final instalment ends up leaving fans hanging as there were more cliffhangers, and barely a clear sight of Toby’s face.
