KUALA LUMPUR : Police detained three people, including the mother and stepfather of a two-year-old child who died after allegedly being abused in Wangsa Maju on Saturday.

The girl, who was under the care of her 28-year-old mother and 35-year-old stepfather, succumbed to head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

A post-mortem yesterday revealed that she had suffered “blunt force trauma” to her head.

Kuala Lumpur police CID chief SAC Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said yesterday police learnt the child was playing at her stepfather’s house at the Lojing Heights apartments at 8pm on Friday when she became breathless and coughed badly.

She was taken to a private clinic in Taman Melawati by her stepfather and his friend, where a doctor advised them to rush her to HKL.

“The child’s mother called her ex-husband to inform him of their child’s condition. He went over to HKL and on doctors informing him of the girl’s death, lodged a police report at 1am at the hospital’s police beat base.

“We arrested the mother, her husband and his friend at the hospital. We have obtained a seven-day remand order on them,” he told theSun.

Zainuddin said police are also investigating whether the victim was sexually abused.
