PETALING JAYA: The jealous husband who threw a petrol bomb at his wife’s car and set it ablaze near Taman Jaya LRT station here on Monday has been remanded for four days after he surrendered to the police.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said the remand was granted by PJ lower court deputy registrar Masra Mohamad yesterday morning.

Mohd Zani added that the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage, and under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a building.

According to Mohd Zani, the suspect, 26, was picked up at 11pm on Monday after he showed up alone at the scene where five other cars were destroyed.

“Upon obtaining the remand order, we took him for a medical check-up at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) as he was also injured in the incident.

“I can’t reveal much as the case is still under investigation,” Mohd Zani told theSun.

A police source told theSun that police launched a massive operation to track down the man. They conducted searches at his Pantai Dalam house, his workshop and the houses of his close friends.

“He had nowhere to go. He went somewhere to have a shower and change his attire before returning to the scene as we believe his family members had advised him to surrender,” said the source.

Police believe he returned to the scene alone by train.

It is learnt that the suspect and his wife are in the midst of a divorce.

Checks by theSun at the scene yesterday found owners of the other cars damaged in the incident had turned up to check their vehicles and collect their personal belongings.

One of the victims, Farhana Jafri, said she was at the scene when her car caught fire.

“I could not do anything. Now I’m having difficulty getting to work as my job requires me to travel and I also need to send my baby to nursery every morning.

“I came today to collect several items and nothing much, only my husband’s sunglasses that we bought for our wedding,” Farhana, 27, told theSun.

Another victim, who only wanted to be identified as Ong, said she is still in shock.

“Monday was the last day of job training at Amcorp Mall.

“I received a text from my boss and when I came down to the car park, my car was already on fire,” said Ong.
