Jail, fine for Kota Raya parking attendant

KUALA LUMPUR: A parking attendant at Kota Raya Plaza was jailed for four days and fined RM1,800 in default two months jail by the magistrate’s court here yesterday after pleading guilty to criminal intimidati­on.

Khairuddin Arbi Omar, 38, was charged with intimidati­ng five male salesmen of a mobile phone shop at the plaza, namely Chiaw Wai Kit, 20, Lim Wai Hong, 27, Wong Weng Kong, 23, Liew Wai Chung, 21 and Yong Haw Nam, 22.

The accused had threatened to smash the shop on the ground floor of Kota Raya in Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, here on Dec 20 at 5pm.

The accused, who was wearing a red Tshirt, appeared calm when magistrate Saifulakma­l Said meted out the sentence.

He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Sunday.

Before handing down the sentence, Saifulakma­l advised the accused not to repeat the mistake.

Based on the facts of the case, police received a phone call on Sunday that a fight had occurred at the plaza after mobile phone buyers claimed they had been cheated by traders.

Acting on informatio­n, police arrested the accused and investigat­ions revealed that the accused had used abusive words and threats on the victims.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Farith Muhammad Faizal handled the prosecutio­n while counsel Zulkifli Awang appeared for Khairuddin. – Bernama
