A bald move

-

THE importance of owning a head full of lush and silky hair is second to none. Thanks to the unrealistic shampoo advertisements glorifying models with tresses that would even put Rapunzel to shame. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with a crown full of hair as an indefinite portion of unlucky lots face the inevitable … balding and hair loss.

GROWING PROBLEM

According to a recent poll conducted by Nielsen for Alpecin, over 50% of Malaysian men are willing to trade years of their life in return for a head full of hair. Others however, would give up favourite foods (nasi lemak and roti canai!), hobbies and even sex for a whole year, just to retain their crowning glory.

While many have tried anti-hair loss shampoos and solutions, using essential oils and traditional remedies, hair transplants and supplements, et cetera, many lack the correlation between hair loss and testosterone and equate having luscious locks as a symbol of youth.

“The impact of baldness and thinning of hair on a man’s selfesteem is often underestimated and telling them it is a fact they should simply accept is like denying that it is an issue for many,” shared Dr Wolff Group head of R&D Dr A Klenk.

“Hair loss can be stressful and have a significant impact on the body image in a culture that views hair as a sign of youth and good health. Hence, it is important that men start to feel at ease discussing a subject that affects so many of them, yet remains a sensitive topic of conversation,” Klenk added.

HAIR CARE

According to studies, contributing factors to hair loss include stress, hereditary, diet and the environment. While in recent times caffeine has gained scientific recognition as an active ingredient in reducing or controlling hair loss, only a mere 8% are aware of the fact. Then again, with a plethora of solutions in the market, one can only imagine the stress in choosing the right product for hair loss.

Nevertheless, for those facing this dilemma, know that since 1930, Alpecin has been in the market and is the first in the industry to come up with a “cosmeceutical” hair and scalp tonic with combined ingredients to improve scalp health using a unique galenic formula. As the #1 male hair care brand from Germany, Alpecin is also known as the market leader in its category in countries such as UK, Austria and Switzerland.

Alpecin provides the hair with energy and extends growth phases well into old age. It also offers three varying products designed to reduce hair loss, strengthen roots and even banish dandruff. For more information on this raising topic not many are open to discussing, visit the brand website.
