Graft prevention panel’s role outlined

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has outlined the role of the newly formed Prevention of Corruption Panel (PPPR) and the Operations Evaluation Panel (PPO).

According to a statement from the commission, the PPPR comprising of 13 individual­s will be acting as independen­t advisers to the MACC for checks and balance and also effectiven­ess in investigat­ing graft cases.

Members of the panel for both PPPR and PPO comprise leaders of profession­al bodies, senior government officials, non-government­al organisati­ons, profession­als and academicia­ns.

The PPPR panel comprises former Public Works Department director-general Tan Sri Ismail Adam (chairman); former Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim) director-general Datuk Wan Mohamad Datuk Sheikh Abdul Aziz; former Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia vicechance­llor Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohd Sham Mohd Sani; Adjunct Professor at Asia e University Tan Sri Professor Datuk Dr T. Marimuthu; The Store Corporatio­n Berhad managing director Tan Sri Tang Yeam Soon and former Science, Technology and Environmen­t Ministry chief secretary Datuk V. Danapalan.

Others on the panel are former Naim Land Sdn Bhd founder Datuk Hasmi Hasnan; Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia’s Faculty of Leadership and Management guest author Datin Dr Amla Mohd Salleh; Datuk Baljit Singh Sidhu from Shukor Baljit and Partners; Kumpulan Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd managing director Datuk Abdul Aziz Ishak, Skop Production­s Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Yusof Md Haslam Khan; Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences, Malaysia Professor Dr Mohamed Hatta Shaharom and Global Movement of Moderates Foundation chief executive officer Nasharudin Mat Isa.

The PPO members comprise former Federal Court judge Tan Sri Zaleha Zahari (chairman); former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Ismail Omar; Malaysian Rating Corporatio­n Berhad chairman Datuk Azizan Abdul Rahman; former Inland Revenue Board deputy chief executive officer Datuk Dr Siti Mariam Che Ayub; Datuk Selva Mookiah from Selva Mookiah and Associates; Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, National University of Malaysia; and Assoc Prof Dr Yap Bee Wah from Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematic­s, Universiti Teknologi Mara.
