Jagat wins best picture but Munafik takes best film

-

THE 28th Festival Film Malaysia that was held on Sept 3 at the Planery Hall in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre drew attention due to an earlier controversy in its nominations for best picture when OlaBola and Jagat were not eligible to compete in best film, best director and best screenplay categories as they did not meet a 70% Bahasa Malaysia requirement. They had to compete in a separate non-Bahasa Malaysia categories.

After a public outcry, the matter was resolved by the Multimedia and Communications minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak who overturned the decision which saw the non-Bahasa Malaysia categories scrapped. Instead, a new main category for nominees that meet the 70% Bahasa Malaysia require- ment was introduced for the first time this year – best film in the national language.
