Accused threw items into river: Witness
KUALA LUMPUR: The late Datuk Kevin Morais’ belongings and a grinder, allegedly used to “cut” the chassis number and an engine number of a Proton Perdana car, were thrown into Sungai Kuala Selangor.
The High Court was also told that a Proton Perdana car, with the registration number WHS 9771, was used to transfer the deputy public prosecutor’s body.
ASP Abdul Hanis Hairul Abdul Halim, 33, said the seventh murder accused, S. Ravi Chandran, gave this information when he was questioned on Sept 15, and Sept 18, 2015.
Replying to deputy public prosecutor Izzat Fauzan, Abdul Hanis Hairul said on Sept 15, 2015, Ravi told him he drove to Kuala Lumpur in a black-coloured Mitsubishi Triton with his “boy”, and that the vehicle, a four-wheel-drive, was used to hit a Proton Perdana in Jalan Segambut.
On the same day at Kuala Muda police headquarters, Abdul Hanis Hairul said Ravi told him that he had thrown a grinder, and items belonging to Kevin into the Sungai Kuala Selangor.
Abdul Hanis Hairul said Ravi’s exact words were: “(The) grinder, I used to cut chassis number and engine number of Perdana car before burning it.”
The witness testified that Morais’ items were a wristwatch, wallet and a ring.
“Ravi said to me: ‘There is another Perdana car which I used to transfer Kevin’s body on that day’,” said Abdul Hanis Hairul, quoting Ravi’s exact words.
The court was then taken to examine the two cars. – by Tamarai Chelvi
