PATTERSON TEAMS up with Aussie crime author Fox to introduce readers to Craig Gisto and the Private Sydney agency, whose staff has two cases to investigate in this novel.

The first involves a surrogacy scam, a murdered woman and a missing baby.

Gisto’s agency is accused of negligence when a couple hires Private to run a background check on a woman who has volunteered to be their surrogate.

Within hours of turning over the report, she is murdered, and her baby abducted.

Gisto and his team have few leads to unravel the scam, but are determined to find the missing infant.

The second case involves a missing CEO. Gisto promises the CEO’s daughter Eliza Moss that his elite team at Private Sydney will try to find her father.

After all, as a high-profile head of a research company, Eric Moss shouldn’t be difficult to find.

However, it soon becomes clear that Eric has made some very powerful enemies.

And they aren’t the only ones on the hunt. Some people, too, want Moss to stay “lost”, while others just as ruthlessly want him found.

Despite attempts at intimidation, Gisto refuses to back off, especially when threats are made against the missing man’s daughter.

The chapters are short, and a sense of immediacy keeps the pace moving quickly. The plot is well-crafted and not entirely predictable, and spiced with some smaller subplots. An interesting read. – MLM
