Emulate spirit of soup kitchen: Nur Jazlan

-

JOHOR BARU: Deputy Home Minister and Pulai MP Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed urged locals to emulate the giving spirit of the Kechara Soup Kitchen.

“Happy to see Kechara Soup Kitchen extend its services to Johor Baru where I am the MP. I urge the constituents to get involved in their charitable service, a contribution for shaping a caring society,” he said when handing out aid to freak storm victims at the Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat Complex on Saturday.

He said people come to Johor from all over to seek greener pastures and while some are lucky, others find themselves without opportunities and not even enough money to return home.

He added there were more and more homeless people seen sleeping in car parks and streets as they cannot afford to stay in rooms which are now expensive.

“We are fortunate that the government is there to help them when a crisis happens,” he told the 60 recipients of the aid.

Some 1,000 street people registered with the food distribution programme by Kechara here.

“Volunteers are needed to prepare and hand out the food on Saturday from 10.30pm to 12am at KTM loading bay, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak,” said Nur Jazlan who was also touched by a foreign dentist who provided free services while on holiday to the city.

Those volunteering their services can register with Nur Jazlan’s community service centre at the Pulai Umno building or go to Kechara’s website. – by Low Sock Ken
