Probe reopened
> Cops take statements again from children
PETALING JAYA: The police have reopened the investigation into the alleged abuse of children from a welfare home in Ipoh, Perak.
The police had visited the home on Wednesday to gather evidence and have taken statements again from some of the children.
“This is a continuation of the investigation.
“It won’t be long before the investigation papers are resubmitted to the deputy public prosecutor,” said Perak CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Gan Tian Kee.
On Dec 28, Gan reportedly said that the police had completed their investigation into the alleged abuse at the home.
A source close to the Society of Caring Hands Ipoh (Sochi) told theSun that the police came to search the home for evidence and they have also interviewed the neighbours about the alleged abuse.
“We are in the process of preparing the investigation papers to be submitted to the Bukit Aman CID and deputy public prosecutor,” he was quoted saying.
Bukit Aman, however, had not responded on the status of the investigation papers and whether it had been submitted to the AttorneyGeneral’s Chambers for further action.
theSun had on Dec 27 highlighted how 12 girls were alleged to have been abused for years by the welfare home’s manager.
The home, known as the Caring Hands (Kakum Karangal), has been managed by Sochi since 2003.
The alleged abuse came to light when a psychologist from Singapore found irregular behaviour amongst the children during a study conducted at the home early last year.
Following a full report submitted to Sochi’s committee by the psychologist in June, the society’s secretary, Dr Subramaniam Suppiah had lodged a police report on the suspected abuse on June 11, and a second report on Aug 12.
