First wave of lions for 2017
> Peugeot unveils ‘showstopping’ hatchback and a crossover SUV with the ‘Most Beautiful Interior’
NASIM Sdn Bhd – the official distributor for Automobiles Peugeot in Malaysia – enthused that what set the Peugeot 208 Puretech and 2008 SUV Puretech apart from their previous incarnations are their award-winning engines. Winner of the 2015 and 2016 “International Engine of the Year” award presented by the British magazine Engine Technology International, Peugeot Puretech is an advanced petrol engine technology that offers a drive and performance normally associated with much bigger engines but with significantly improved fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
“The Puretech petrol engine is designed to be compact and efficient whilst delivering big engine drive and performance, producing 110.5hp and 205Nm of torque. In the area of fuel consumption, on a combined cycle it is rated at 4.2 litres per 100 kilometres for a bestin-class fuel efficiency.
The power and performance of the Puretech engine ensures a responsive and enjoyable driving experience, underpinned by the latest technology.
“Stop Start Technology ensures optimal control over fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as it deactivates the engine when speed is below 20km/h and restarts smoothly when the accelerator is pressed. This technology also has the benefit of reducing fuel consumption when driving by up to 15% in dense urban traffic and re-ignition which is 40% quicker.
“Additionally, the engine is matched to an efficient six-speed automatic transmission with Quickshift technology. This technology makes quicker gear changes possible while guaranteeing excellent fluidity and a high degree of driving pleasure. Its output is improved by reducing internal friction and using lockable converters that prevent any slippage.”
The company further added that the 208 Puretech exudes “character and allure at first sight” with its new assertive, robust and distinctive styling. The new bumper presents a sharper, more precise and muscular line alongside a fully integrated wider grille and thicker chrome finish combined with separate front foglights, new front headlights, 3D LED rear lights and an LED light signature that “captivates and surprises” atop 16-inch alloy wheels. “Together they suggest the quality and robustness characteristic of a Peugeot hatchback.”
The 2008 SUV Puretech, on the other hand, strikes a powerful silhouette through its new robust vertical front grille which features the renowned Peugeot Lion at the centre of its multifaceted grid. Its muscularity is further emphasised by 17inch Hydre Antra dual tone rims.
“The appeal of the 2008 SUV Puretech is enhanced by its elegant newly designed lighting signature consisting of LED daytime running lights, front foglights with cornering assist lighting and 3D rear lights.”
A refined interior built around driving sensations awaits drivers and passengers as soon as they step inside. The revolutionary Peugeot i-Cockpit makes for a welcoming sight as it delivers a stimulating, incisive and safe driving experience. The compact sport leather steering wheel offers precise steering and improved manoeuvrability while the large 7-inch HD multifunction colour touchscreen puts all the functionality at your fingertips. In addition, the head-up instrument panel allows driver information to be accessed without taking your eyes off the road. This innovatively designed layout was deservedly recognised at the 29th Annual Festival Automobile International by winning “Most Beautiful Interior”.
Other features include Arkamys 3D audio system with six speakers, full digital connectivity with USB and Bluetooth, digital dual zone climate control via touchscreen, versatile modular seats, generous cabin storage and voluminous cargo space. A panoramic roof with blue mood LED lighting is available in the 2008 SUV Puretech.
Committed to reliability and protection, the 208 Puretech and 2008 SUV Puretech honour Peugeot’s stringent safety standards as exemplified in its comprehensive safety systems. Both achieved five-star ratings from Euro NCAP for maximum safety at every level to their driver and passengers, thanks to their six airbags and an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) featuring AntiLock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Anti-Skid Regulation (ASR) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
Other safety features include very high strength steel grade body construction, Hill Start Assist, three sets of Isofix points at the rear for child seats, pretensioner safety belt with load limiter and seatbelt alarm audio, advanced electric power steering and Peugeot Rolling Code Transponder immobiliser security.
The 208 Puretech hatchback on-the-road price with insurance (and GST included) is RM89,888. It comes in six colours: Digital White, Virtual Blue, Nera Black, Atomic Orange, Rouge Red and Aluminium.
The 2008 SUV Puretech’s price tag is RM109,888 (on-the-road, with insurance and GST). It is available in four colours: Digital White, Ultimate Red, Emerald and Artense Grey.
