Zainuri recruited Malaysians to join IS
Southern Bank branch in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya on May 18, 2001. He left for Syria on April 19, 2014
In May 2016, Zainuri released a video in which he called on Malaysians to declare war against Malaysia and to join the IS in Syria.
He also threatened to launch attacks on undisclosed areas here and renounced his Malaysian citizenship.
In August last year, he suffered injuries to his neck and thigh in a gunfight with Syrian forces where his fellow Malaysian comrade Zainan Harith Abu Thurab, 52, also a former KMM member, was killed.
Zainuri was also responsible for the recruitment and travel funding of Malaysians intending to join the IS in Syria.
The two other Malaysian militants killed with him on Saturday during the air raid were Ahmad Asraf Arbee Ahmad Jamal Arbee Abu Luqman Al Malizi, 31, from Shah Alam and Sazrizal Mohd Sofian Thayalan
Abu Badar Al Malizi, 27, from Seri Kembangan.
Both men left for Syria on Nov 8, 2014.
Police said the third casualty, Sazrizal, had headed to Syria with his wife without the knowledge of their families.
He was among those who also appeared in Zainuri’s threat video clip where he was spotted burning several Malaysian passports renouncing their citizenship.
Prior to heading to Syria, the couple with several other friends and their spouses had left for Australia and worked as fruit pickers to gather funds for their trip to Syria.
Among the group was 26year-old Malaysian militant Mohamad Amirul Ahmad Rahim, a suicide bomber who was killed when he drove a truck full of explosives and blew it up, killing 21 others in Raqqah last year. Soon after, his wife delivered a baby boy in Syria. Mohamad Amirul had left to Syria earlier with his wife and an older child.
