Feasting on Dragon-i’s treasure-filled pots

-

THE DRAGON-I group of restaurants once again prepares to dish out its popular treasure pots to welcome another lunar new year.

As family members far and wide come together to celebrate this Spring Festival, what better way to do this than over a pot brimful of delectable treasures.

Since 2008, Dragon-i Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pots have been gracing the dining tables not only during the reunion dinner but also throughout the 15-day festive celebration.

For this year’s celebration, connoisseurs of the treasure pots were already feasting on this yearly dish as early as December last year. It will be available till Feb 11 for both dine-in and takeaway.

And what’s not to like in this traditional dish, which was created by Dragon-i’s chefs who hail from Shanghai and Hong Kong, with Hong Kong Iron Chef Leong Man-To invited over as a special guest chef to ensure its authenticity.

The Dragon-i Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot, for six to eight persons, boasts of 18 delicacies, all cooked in a special braised oyster and abalone sauce.

The treasures include braised premium Australian abalone (12 heads), sea cucumber, Japanese dried scallops and dried oysters, premium mushrooms, Pantai Remis fresh sea prawns, roast chicken, braised trotters, golden money bags, pork balls, dried beancurd skin, yam, black moss, Chinese cabbage, broccoli, deepfried beancurd skin and radish.

A more premium version, the Dragon-i Signature Prosperity Abalone Treasure Pot, requires reservation to be made three days in advance.

This treasure pot, for eight to 10 pax, offers 18 different delicacies cooked in Dragon-i’s special broth.

These high-value treasures include braised premium Australian abalone (eight heads), premium sea cucumber, Japanese vegetarian shark’s fin, dried scallops and dried oysters, goose web, roast chicken, braised trotters, pork balls, premium mushrooms, Brazilian Matsutake mushrooms, shaggy mane mushrooms, black moss, dried beancurd skin, and bamboo piths.

Both pots weigh in at nine pounds (about 4kg) each, and are priced at RM468 and RM688 respectively. Prices are inclusive of GST, while a 10% service charge will be added for dine-in.

According to Dragon-i marketing executive December Kueh, the prices have not changed from last year’s even though Dragon-i is now offering even higher premium ingredients such as abalone from Australia instead of from Chile as in previous years.
