Video on Han-Sol surfaces

- BY G. SURACH

PETALING JAYA: A video of a man claiming to be the son of Kim JongNam surfaced on YouTube on Tuesday.

The 40-second video shows the person claiming to be Jong-Nam’s son, Kim Han-Sol, stating that his father was killed “a few days ago” and that he is currently with his mother and sister.

The man said he is a part of the Kim family, and showed a passport as proof.

However, parts of what appeared to be a North Korean passport are blacked out, with some audio parts also censored.

The video, which has received over 168,000 views, ends with the man saying: “We hope this gets better soon.”

The video is titled “KHS Video” and was uploaded by the Cheollima Civil Defense, a group claiming to offer safe haven to North Koreans.

The group’s website at http:// www.cheollimacivildefense.org/ revealed that it had responded to an “emergency request” by members of Jong-Nam’s family last month for “extraction and protection”.

“The three family members were met quickly and relocated to safety. We have in the past addressed other urgent needs for protection. This will be the first and last statement on this particular matter, and the present whereabouts of this family will not be addressed,” the group said in a statement.

Additionally, the group also thanked several countries that it claimed provided protection for the family.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the government of the Netherlands, the Chinese government, the United States government and an anonymous government for supporting the evacuation of a family in an emergency.

“We also recognise our colleagues who remain in the North or within its system who provide critical assistance in extracting such individuals,” it said.
