> Sony will roll out its lineup of 4K HDR TVs that aim to offer dazzling picture for consumers
SONY ELECTRONICS recently unveiled its 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range) television series at a media event in Singapore’s Suntec City, where it showcased all the latest models that will roll out in 2017, as well as the unique features that will make them stand out from the competition.
In Malaysia, these new TV sets will be available from May onwards.
Sony Southeast Asia’s HQ Consumer Marketing Centre director and head Kazutoyo Araki told the media at the event that the company’s focus last year was on its 4K TVs and sound systems, which proved to be a successful year for Sony Bravia.
“This year, Sony will focus on 4K TVs, especially large screens ones, due to consumer demand,” he added.
Araki said when 4K OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs were unveiled, people were surprised at the high quality visuals and sound not found in conventional TV sets.
With the advent of videostreaming services, 4K UHD Bluray and Playstation 4 gaming, the world in HDR has greatly expanded with TV technology.
Sony’s 4K OLED TVs will be introduced under the Sony Bravia brand.
The new Bravia TVs will feature 4K HDR content by combining Sony’s unique image processor – the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme – with the latest display device technologies.

The campaign, which began in December last year and concluded in February, saw some 10,000 entries submitted for the chance to be one of the five finalists selected for a lucky draw.
The contest was held in tandem with the mall’s official opening with entries from shoppers who spent a minimum of RM100 in a single receipt.
The five lucky finalists – Oh, Liew Li Peng, Chun Cheng Joo, Hazran Harun and Yaw Poi Moon – then had to draw a number and open a box that corresponded with their number to claim their prize.
Oh’s number earned him the Volvo V40 while Liew won for herself an all-expense-paid trip to Korea and product hamper by Always 21, Chun took home a Hero Bed Frame and Nature’s Finest Himalaya Mattress courtesy of Harvey Norman, introduced in Sony’s flagship Z series last year, has been acclaimed for its ability to deliver lifelike pictures with superb texture, depth, colour and contrast.
This time, Sony will be introducing the X1 Extreme processor chip in two new TV series, the A1 and X93.
Alongside the X1 Extreme processor, the new A1 series features the acoustic surface technology that does away with conventional speakers usually found on TVs.
The series has a unique ‘standless’ form, that gives an uninterrupted view of the screen.
Sony Southeast Asia’s TV marketing department senior manager Benjamin Ng said of the new A1 Bravia OLED TV model: “In 2017, we will focus on three elements that are important to us. We will offer the best picture quality to our customers, continue to offer TVs [with an aesthetically pleasing] design, and give customers a good interface experience when using multifeeds.”
Referring to the X1 Extreme 4K processor chip, he said: “It gives you better and clearer true-to-life pictures as well as stunning contrasts and image quality.”
Ng added that this chip is able to process the data coming in to give the best clarity and contrast to images.
Meanwhile, Sony will continue to utilise the Android operating system to offer customers a seemingly endless source of entertainment and games.
And thanks to Sony’s new sound technology called Acoustic Surface, Hazran became the proud owner of a De’Wise Care Butterfly Massage Chair from Gintell, and Yaw could sounds emanate directly from the screen itself, due to the OLED’s ‘backlight-less structure’.
Yoshihiro One, the general manager of the Product Development Centre at Sony Japan’s TV business division, explained: “The speakers are behind the screen ... this special technology enables the sound to come through the image, hence you get real stereo sound.”
Together with OLED’s exceptionally wideviewing angle, the A1 series will also provide an now show off a Celistar diamond ring from SK Jewellery.
On top of that, 18 other lucky unmatched visual and aural experience, regardless of what your viewing position is. Meanwhile, Sony’s new X93 series features the Slim Backlight Drive+, which is an improved LED backlight technology allowing more precise and accurate local dimming control compared to its predecessor, the Slim Backlight Drive. With its quadedge LED structure and X-tended Dynamic Range Pro local participants walked away with a variety of other prizes sponsored by Sasa, Johnson Fitness, Seen, Style dimming and boasting technology, you will get superior brightness and exceptional contrast, compared to conventional LED TVs in the market.
Both the X93E and A1 series will support Dolby Vision, that will enhance your viewing experience further.
Sony Electronics also announced an additional array of 4K HDR and Full-HD HDR televisions that will be available in the market this year, including the X90E and X85E series, which will have the newly-developed, more advanced 4K HDR Processor X1.
