Grab expands its R&D capabilities
GRAB recently opened two new research and development (R&D) centres in India and Vietnam to expand its global capabilities. The two new centres, brings the number of Grab R&D centres to six in total.
These centres will enable Grab to provide new payment technologies for its digital payment platform and improve localisation efforts for respective areas.
EXPANSION EFFORTS
The new centres are a part of Grab’s effort to keep pace with its growth, which will include introducing more than 800 jobs across the six R&D centres in the next two years.
These expansion efforts will support Grab’s multi-modal transport platform and proprietary payments system across Southeast Asia, which includes the launch of three new transport services in the last quarter, GrabShare, GrabCoach and GrabShuttle, as well as the roll out of its customer loyalty programme (GrabRewards).
Grab co-founder Tan Hooi Ling spoke about the company’s growth and the opportunity in Southeast Asia.
“At Grab, we are focused on solving the toughest local problems through technology. Southeast Asia is developing at a breakneck pace and we have an unprecedented opportunity to deliver a platform that caters to the region’s mobilefirst environment and infrastructural needs. Addressing such challenges requires a combination of deep local understanding and best-in-class engineering. Our philosophy is to develop our highly localised products in the countries where our consumers live, while tapping into the best specialised tech talent around the world to enhance the user experience and efficiency and effectiveness of our platform,” Tan said.
