Penang PAS divisions agree to cut ties with PKR

- BY IMRAN HILMY

PERMATANG PAUH: All 13 PAS divisions have agreed to submit their request to the party leadership to sever political ties with PKR.

Penang PAS commissioner Fauzi Yusof said he has received motions from all 13 divisions that have concluded their annual general meetings (AGM).

“This shows Penang PAS has one voice in our seriousness in evaluating PAS’ relationship with PKR,” he said at a press conference after the state Youth wing’s AGM at Sekolah Islam Darul Ulum in Penanti yesterday.

He said the motion will be sent to the party central leadership and hopes it can be debated at the PAS Muktamar which will take place from April 29 to May 1 in Alor Star.

Meanwhile, the Youth wing’s information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said PAS has done its part in making sure that the Private Member’s Bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, or RUU355 by proposing it in Parliament.

He said whether the bill is debated or not during this parliamentary sitting is immaterial as PAS has done its job for the benefit of Muslims in Malaysia.

He said Barisan Nasional’s flip-flop on the motion shows that Umno is not serious in implementing the Muslim agenda.

“PAS will keep on engaging the public and the people to create awareness on the empowerment of syariah in this country.

“Whether you are in PAS or not, as long as you are a Muslim you must support RUU 355,” he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced on Wednesday that the government will not table the motion on RUU355, which was tabled by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang last year.
