Another activist goes missing

PETALING JAYA: Activist Peter Chong (pix), a former Petaling Jaya municipal councillor, has gone missing just over a week after he posted on his Facebook page of being approached by a stranger warning him to “take care of himself”.

He is the fifth person reported missing in recent months following the disappearance of pastor Raymond Koh Keng Joo, activist Amri Che Mat, and pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife Ruth.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman, who confirmed police received a report on Chong’s disappearance, said investigations are underway.

Bersih 2.0, in a statement said Chong has been missing for over two days and that there had been no news of his whereabouts.

“This is a very sad day for all Malaysians that disappearances are happening here.

“We request for an urgent meeting with Inspector-General of Police (Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar) to obtain an update on their actions to locate these missing persons,” the Bersih 2.0 steering committee said in the statement. On March 31, Chong posted on Facebook he was approached by a motorcyclist who said he recognised him from various protests and candlelight vigils he attended.

The person then told Chong there are a lot of individuals going missing lately, and that people knew where victims are living, before telling him to “take care”.

Amri went missing on Nov 25, 2016, followed by Joshua and Ruth on Nov 30, 2016, before Koh was abducted on Feb 13 this year.
