Family focusing on funeral for the moment

GEORGE TOWN: The family of an elderly woman who died in a hit-and-run accident is still undecided on their next course of action.

Cheah, 29, the son of Foo Swee Wah, 58, (pix) who was hit by a motorcycle last Thursday, said the family had yet to come to terms with what had happened.

He said the family was busy with preparations for the funeral and was too busy to think about the culprit when asked about the possibility of legal action being taken against the motorcyclist.

“We really want the people to be more aware when they are driving or walking. That is all,” he told theSun via text yesterday. The wake for Foo is being held at the funeral parlour in Mount Erskine while the funeral will be held today.

The family was seen busy preparing for the funeral at the funeral parlour when theSun visited them yesterday while a few friends showed up to pay their last respects.

The coffeeshop operator was hit by a motorcyclist while walking across a pedestrian crossing on the way to the Pulau Tikus market during the 10am incident on April 6 which was captured by a car dashcam.

She was rushed to the Penang Hospital with severe injuries to the head but succumbed to her injuries about 10 hours later the same day.

Police on Friday detained a 44year-old man to assist in investigations for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
