Govt not deterred by Opposition’s criticisms: PM

-

BESUT: The government will not be affected by criticisms from the Opposition, including those hurled at it by former Barisan Nasional leaders, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

Najib said he was not deterred by these people and would continue to work hard in making transformation for the benefit of the people and the country’s future.

Najib added that he wanted for Malaysia to be respected in the global arena through the various initiatives taken by the government.

The prime minister, who was on a oneday tour to Terengganu, made the remarks at a ground-breaking ceremony of the Sungai Besut estuary conservation project in Pekan Baru, here.

Also present were Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar as well as several cabinet ministers.

At a separate event in Dungun, Najib talked about how one can become a good prime minister.

He said a prime minister must be able to feel the pulse of the people, regardless of race and religion.

He noted that a good prime minister should also know the people’s problems, their aspirations and needs, not just for the current times, but throughout.

Najib also said that the recent visit of Saudi Arabia ruler King Salman to Malaysia was clear evidence that Umno had in fact succeeded in upholding Islam in the country.

“If Umno is against Islam, the Saudi King will certainly avoid our country. This shows the success of Umno in taking the right path to uphold the religion,” he said.

“We practise moderation and take the middle path in defending the syariah (laws),” he said.
