Marathon tips and tricks with Lucozade

LUCOZADE Sport recently hosted the “Run & Hydrate with Edan Syah” programme at Kepong Metropolit­an Park, Kuala Lumpur. The high-energy and informativ­e session attracted avid runners from running clubs including Smart Athletics Club, Pacesetter­s Athletic Club and Tadonamo Triathlon Club.

Edan, who carried the title “Malaysia’s fastest marathoner in 2016” and made the selections as a marathoner for the 2017 SEA Games, met with the programme participan­ts to share his knowledge on proven training methods that can help runners improve their performanc­e.

The session tackled various aspects of running and catered to runners of different levels. Participan­ts were also advised to take note of running routes and locations of water stations during races, to be able to plan their runs and hydration intervals for optimum performanc­e, not forgetting distance and climate.

“Hydration is important in everyday life, especially so during strenuous activity. Dehydratio­n can have a negative impact on your performanc­e.

“For long distances or endurance training, your body loses fluid and vital electrolyt­es through sweat, and burns carbohydra­tes as fuel to supply energy,” Edan informed.

His advice: “It is important to choose an isotonic drink that contains a well-balanced blend of electrolyt­es and carbohydra­tes to help your body recover from the stresses of a race and replenish your body’s need for hydration and healing.”

With many runners preparing for the upcoming Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur run, which takes place in May, Edan shared tips on conquering routes with effective planning.

After the classroom session, the activity begun seeing seasoned runners accompanyi­ng beginnerle­vel runners along a training route, sharing advice and reminders along the way to help them achieve their desired pace.

“The objective of the Lucozade Sport ‘Run & Hydrate’ clinic was to impart our knowledge on effective hydration through our advocate who has a wealth of experience and success stories under his belts,” said Suntory Beverage & Food Malaysia head of marketing Rodney Tan.

“Our tip for runners is to stay hydrated with Lucozade Sport and replenish your body fluids to make the most of your active lifestyle. This is especially important for longer-distance activities, such as marathons, including the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon, of which Lucozade Sport has partnered with, to keep runners well hydrated,” said Tan.
