world’s best restaurants and innovative cafes that are steered by imaginative and passionate chefs.

Today’s definition of Australian cuisine is a fusion of what Australia is as a society.

“We are one of the most multicultural countries in the world,” said Smith, adding that at least one in four Australians was originally born overseas.

He said the immigrants who came to Australia also brought along their culinary heritage, and in big cities such as Melbourne, a Malaysian restaurant can be found next to another Asian, African, South America or European restaurant.

“Australia’s culinary traditions reflect the diverse, multicultural character of our society, of which Malaysia is very much a part of, as well as the natural bounty of our land,” Smith added.

“The Australian Food Trail gives Malaysians here a chance to savour some of our culinary excellence at some fine local restaurants, and to discover what the taste of Australia is all about.”

At the launch, chefs Brandon Chin and Edwin Koh of Breakfast Thieves presented three of their restaurant’s dishes which were inspired by Australia.

The Gypsy King is beetroot and citrus cured salmon with crisp rosemary polenta cubes, green epa puree, garlic yogurt, mixed mushroom, crisp kale and poached eggs.

The Leprechaun is crisp sweet corn and zucchini fritters with beetroot puree, cauliflower mousse, buttered corn, honey confit carrot and poached eggs.

The Mr Terry Benedict is a 24hour braised shredded beef cheek in Sarawak crushed black peppercorn, charred cauliflower, and poached eggs with burnt butter hollandaise on toast.
