Solving sensitivity
HAVING sensitive skin is common and it can be a tough battle to fight, when all you want is an even, glowing complexion. Sensitive skin is characterised by irritation, redness and/or inflammation, caused by skin conditions such as eczema, allergies, rosacea, harsh cleansers or even lifestyle factors like food and stress. The good news is that you can minimise these issues with a skincare routine specifically developed for sensitive skin, and by taking action with the help of some tips to solving skin sensitivities. Here are six tips to keep sensitivities to a minimum.
1 Know ingredients Stay away from products that are high in acids, contain alcohol, preservatives, synthetic perfumes or essential oils. These can all aggravate the skin, causing it to flare up.
2 Keep hydrated Dehydration makes your skin's outer layer easier to irritate. Build up your skin's moisture barrier with intense hydration, for high protection benefits. Increase your water intake and chose a comforting mois- turiser.

3 Stay away from harsh cleansers Harsh cleansers can cause irritation and dehydrate the skin, increasing the risk of sensitivity to other products in your routine. Use gentle cleansing products without harsh detergents, fragrance, foaming agents, chemicals or exfoliating particles or acids.
4 Minimise temperature changes Cold air can't hold moisture, resulting in low humidity. This lack of moisture in the air results in increased water evaporation from the skin, creating dryness. This not only affects those living in colder climates but also where air conditioning is frequently used. Moisturise throughout the day and keep hot showers to a minimum.
5 Take a look around Lifestyle factors can also affect the skin causing inflammation and irritation. Be aware of your daily rituals as body perfumes, laundry softeners and foods can cause the skin to react.
6 Spot check Before trying any new skincare products, spot check them on the inside of your elbow and wait 24 hours to see how your skin reacts.
