Diario AS The Insatiables LUKA MODRIC (left) believes that Real Madrid’s era of Champions League success can go on for several more years – and thereby replicate the kind of dominance in the competition they achieved in the 1950s – as he also put the secondhalf turnaround in their 4-1 final win over Juventus down to Zinedine Zidane’s halftime speech.

By so resoundingly defeating the Italian champions, Real have not just become the first side to retain the European Cup in 27 years, but also won their third in four years – a period of dominance not seen since Liverpool won three in five years from 1976-77 to 198081.

Modric, who was again masterful especially in setting up Cristiano Ronaldo’s clinching third goal, believes it can continue.

“It’s something special we are doing at the moment and we need to keep going because this moment will not last forever,” the Croatian said.

“I think we feel amazing team, and we need to just keep doing what we are doing, because I think we can win much more titles in the future.”

Asked how long the spell can last, Modric responded: “It’s difficult to say this but, like I said, we need to keep doing what we are doing, enjoy what we are doing and we will see.

“We are in good ages, we have young players that are coming that have a lot of quality, and this is only positive thing for the team.”

Having been put under pressure in the first half against Juventus, Real came out a transformed and triumphant side in the second half to score three goals, and Modric put that down to Zidane.

“I think definitely instruction from mister (Zidane), and what he said that we need to be more aggressive, to not allow Juve to keep the ball easily like they did in first half after our goal, we dropped back too much and it was not good for us and second half he changed this, and it was crucial for our performance the second half.” – The Independent
