Nurse finds bomb attached to car
> Beeping sound alerts her to explosive device
PETALING JAYA: A nurse had a close shave with disaster when a continuous beeping sound alerted her to an improvised explosive device (IED) that was attached to the vehicle she was driving.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said the 27-year-old was returning to her home at the time.
“Upon hearing the sound, she felt something was wrong and drove to her uncle’s house.
“The uncle checked her car and found an unidentified object attached to the vehicle’s bumper.
“According to the victim, the object looked like a bomb,” he said.
Fadzil said the police bomb disposal unit was despatched to her uncle’s house at Taman Damai, Kapar, at about 10.30pm on Saturday and the IED was destroyed.
“We believe it is a self-made bomb with a switch and explosive. Normally the explosion is not that big but of course things can go wrong and it could be very dangerous,” he added.
He said the state CID team is still in the midst of establishing the motive behind the incident.
The case will be investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
Meanwhile, North Klang district police chief ACP Mohd Yusoff Mamat said based on the victim’s report, police suspect her former boyfriend may have been involved in the incident.
“They were said to be dating for seven years before breaking up,” he added.
A source told theSun the man was unhappy over the break-up and had on occasions tried to extort money from the victim.
The source added that the CCTV footage showed the IED was attached to the car at the car park of the clinic.
