DAIKIN Malaysia (DAMA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Education Ministry to deliver the next generation of capable professionals in the heating, ventilation and air- conditioning (HVAC) industry under the Upper Secondary Industry Apprenticeship (Pima) programme.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS

The MoU was signed by DAMA group COO Ooi Cheng Suan ( pix) and the ministry’s school management division head Aminudin Adam ( pix), in the presence of DAMA Group head of human resources Angeline Lee and SMK Bukit Rahman Putra principal Ahmad Ismail.

Briefly, Pima is a skills training programme offered at selected schools. It will be open to students over the age of 15. Under the work- and-study programme, students will be trained as an apprentice to meet the needs and standards of the skilled-work industry.

“We are looking at industrial automation as the driving force of the HVAC industry in the future. We would need certified experts and talents to cater to these developments,” said Ooi.

CSR EFFORT TO EMPOWER COMMUNITY

“This programme is essential to ensure the vocational skills within the nation has a successor. Daikin Malaysia is glad to adopt this programme under our corporate social responsibility effort as we get to empower the community with our expertise and groom young local talent to sustain the industry.

“Vocational studies are a great opportunity and an alternative, besides mainstream education, to upscale one’s marketability for future employment,” added Ooi.

Daikin Malaysia has in its employment over 4,000 employees across eight affiliated Malaysian companies. Daikin has been strategically expanding its operations into uncharted territories that include the Home Central System and other notable innovations.

The Pima programme is carried out in conjunction with the Vocational Education Transformation programme which is based on a smart partnership concept, designed with the industries.
