Thriving at 30
FOR one night only, Sunway University transformed its football field into a carnival ground in celebration of Sunway Education Group’s (SEG) 30th anniversary.
Students, parents, Sunway Education employees and media personnel gathered for an evening of free-flowing snacks and performances. The event drew to a close with a 3D laser light show on SEG’s history, which was projected onto the main building of Sunway University.
“It’s really amazing how much has happened over the past 30 years,” said Sunway University vice-chancellor Prof Graeme Wilkinson during the celebration.
“From almost nothing – a small college, now to a big education group with colleges, two universities – it’s a fantastic achievement in a very short time.”
“We’re growing all the time. We’re making very good links internationally. Sunway University has collaborations with Harvard University, University of Oxford and University of Cambridge; and we’ll just go on building these relationships and become a more highly-recognised university,” Wilkinson added.
The vice-chancellor felt that in the next 30 years, incredible and exciting changes can be expected.
SEG is owned and governed by Malaysia’s largest educationfocused social enterprise – the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation. There are a total of 16 institutions under SEG today, which includes Sunway University, Sunway College, Sunway International School, Monash University Malaysia and the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
