Saving tigers through art
MAYBANK Foundation, the corporate responsibility arm of Maybank Group (Maybank), recently organised a Tiger Art exhibition at Menara Maybank. The exhibition was open to the public and ran from July 24 to 28. It was aimed at raising awareness on tiger conservation, through the visual and creative art form.
THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition, which was held in conjunction with Global Tiger Day 2017, featured 15 oil and charcoal paintings by local artist Azaikmal Ahmad Rashid. The artworks highlighted the beauty of the Malayan Tigers.
All paintings were complemented with educational posters that provided interesting insights to educate the public on: the importance of the species; the ongoing conservation efforts in Malaysia; and the role and responsibility the public can take on.
Azaikmal’s paintings were up for sale and proceeds were donated to the Maybank Foundation and WWF-Malaysia’s tiger conservation fund.
THE IMPORTANT “WHY”
Maybank and Maybank Foundation chairman Datuk Mohaiyani Shamsudin shared about the purpose of the exhibition.
“Our deep commitment to enhance the level of public awareness has led us to commission an artist and host this exhibition this year. We hope that the works of this talented artist, Azaikmal Ahmad Rashid, coupled with information displayed on our conservation programme, will encourage appreciation, prompt contemplation and evoke actions from the public to address the importance of conserving the wild tigers in our ecosystem,” Mohaiyani said.
