McDonald’s spices it up with Korean burger

-

MCDONALD’S Malaysia kicks off its 2017 Discover the World campaign with the launch of the Spicy Korean Burger.

The burger is one of three menu items that McDonald’s Malaysia will introduce this year under this platform.

Available nationwide from now to Aug 23, the Spicy Korean burger is made of a kimchi-seasoned grilled beef patty, topped with a spicy Korean sauce, mixed vegetables, cheese, and caramelised onions, between black charcoal buns.

It also marks the return of fan favourite 1/4 pounder beef patty.

The result is a satisfyingly portioned savoury burger with a distinctly Korean spicy and sour flavour. Its spiciness is prominent, but will not be a challenge to those who are accustomed to hot flavours.

The Spicy Korean burger is available a la carte at RM12.99, or in a regular meal set together with criss-cut chips, and a Frozen Fanta at RM15.99.

The taste of Korea was chosen because of the popularity of Korean culture in Malaysia. The menu items were tested in five outlets before the nationwide release.

According to Melati Abdul Hai, senior director of marketing, communications and insight, the Nasi Lemak burger may never reach our shores.

However, she revealed the next two Discover the World menu items will also focus on Asian flavours.

The campaign started last year with the introduction of the Rio Burger, the Burger Syok, and the Hawaii Deluxe.

Meanwhile, Azmir Jaafar, managing director of McDonald’s Malaysia, said that the fast food restaurant has seen double digit growth this year.

He added that McDonald’s aims to open 200 new restaurants, in addition to remodelling existing restaurants. This, Azmir said, will result in more job opportunities, and growth for the company.
