Single pay mode for all transport
System will help spur city’s growth
KUALA LUMPUR: The development of the integrated transport system will bring greater development to the city, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said yesterday.
Part of the development involves having an integrated payment system which will be fully implemented by 2019.
“The payment system will also cater to KTM trains, trains serving the north and south of the country, high speed rail and the east coast rail link,” he said.
Once all the public transport system in Kuala Lumpur is completed, it will be a catalyst for economic development.
Liow added that it is part of the plan to develop greater KL.
The government is working on the MRT 2 which will connect Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya and the circle line, which will connect all LRT, MRT, monorail and KTM commuter lines in the city.
MRT has launched an application that allows the public to know exactly when a bus would arrive at their stop.
“We are also working on increasing the frequency of the KTM commuter to seven and a half minutes per train.
“To achieve this, the government has allocated RM1.4 million to upgrade all the necessary systems,” he told reporters after officiating the Patriotic Hand Mural Painting ceremony at Taman Bunga Raya yesterday.
Liow said the painting, which is 600m in length and 5m high, is the longest painting in the country to mark the nation’s 60th National Day celebration.
He added the organisers hoped to gather some 60,000 palm prints on the mural with the last being that of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
