Customs seize 150kg of syabu
> Seven arrested over sacks marked as industrial material
SERDANG: The Customs Department yesterday seized more than 150kg of methamphetamine worth almost RM11 million with the arrest of seven people at the Bukit Serdang Industrial Park in Seri Kembangan on Monday.
Its officers found the drugs in six sacks marked as industrial magnesium sulphate, commonly used in the agricultural industry.
A 40-year-old local man, believed to be the mastermind, and five Bangladeshis and a Nepali, aged 22 to 43, were arrested.
Sources revealed that at about 6pm, the Customs team was conducting surveillance on a storage premises in the area and spotted the six foreigners unloading the sacks from a container.
The team apprehended the men and upon questioning the foreigners, the team was led to the main suspect, who was in a pick-up truck at a car park not far from the store.
Upon checking, the officers found the narcotics in six sacks.
Sources told theSun that the amount of drugs could be much higher as there were almost 800 similar sacks in the building.
Customs Director-General Datuk Subromaniam Tholasy said the seven have been remanded for seven days for investigations under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act, that carries the mandatory death sentence.
He said the drugs were brought in from Chennai, India, adding that Customs were checking 19 other shipments of magnesium sulphate.
