TRIPLE jumper Muhammad Hakimi Ismail yesterday erased his own SEA Games record after leaping 16.77 metres to deliver a goal medal in the 2017 SEA Games.

He beat his previous record of 16.76 metres set in Singapore and defeated Philippine­s’ Mark Harry Diones’ 16.63m jump to second place while Pratchaya Tepparak of Thailand cleared 16.37m for the bronze.

Malaysian swimming ace Welson Sim won the gold medal in the men’s 200m freestyle final at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil tonight.

The 20-year-old Sarawakian splashed his way to a new Games record with a time of 1 minute 47.49 seconds to erase the previous record of 1:48.96s set by Vietnam’s Hoang

Meanwhile, in the men’s squash doubles final, Mohammad Syafiq Mohd Kamal-Ng Eain Yow had little problems against Singaporen pair Pang Ka Hoe-Timothy Leong Yew Sing, wining in 11-3 11-6 to win the gold medal.

Both Mohammad Syafiq and Eain How said they understood each other’s play very well and this helped a lot in enabling them to secure victory.

It was an all Malaysian affair for the women’s final, with Rachel ArnoldAndr­ea Lee Jia Qi up against Chan Yiwen-Nazihah Hanis.

Rachel and Andrea easily won the first set 11-4 but were given a stiff fight in the second before they prevailed in 11-10. – Bernama
