> Conte sets his eye for English duo Vardy and Drinkwater

CHELSEA’S transfer window has hardly been a crisis so far, although it may seem so. Chelsea have made four signings this summer and spent around £150million on Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Willy Caballero.

Conte has been very vocal in expressing his displeasure at the board after missing out on a handful of key targets.

The Blues’ activity in the transfer window appeared to affect them on the pitch in their opening Premier League game as they lost 3-2 at home to Burnley.

Conte is still hoping to make one more addition before the window closes, but he has at least four players on his list.

The Italian has set his sights on Virgil van Dijk, but Southampton are adamant he’s not for sale.

With Spanish star Diego Costa continually trying to force a move back to Atletico Madrid, Chelsea are reportedly weighing up whether to make a move for Jamie Vardy as a ready-made replacement.

They are also eyeing a swoop for his Leicester teammate Danny Drinkwater for £30m according to reports. However, the 2015/16 Premier League champions are holding out for a fee closer to £40m.

Chelsea have reportedly held talks with Inter Milan over the possible transfer of Antonio Candreva. The Blues were said to be readying a £25m bid for the Italian before the window closes, however, his agent Federico Pastorello confirmed Candreva wants to stay in Milan.

The hierarchy at Stamford Bridge will also have eyes on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s situation at Arsenal, with sources claiming he has turned down a new contract.

Marseille are set to offer Costa a way out of Chelsea with a bid worth £27.5million for the Brazilian forward, according to their club president.

The 28-year-old has his heart set on a return to former club Atletico Madrid, but they are unable to move for the striker due to a transfer ban.

Marseille are hoping to capitalise on the situation by offering Costa an escape route, and are planning to test Chelsea’s resolve with a big-money bid. – Agencies
