Joining hands to provide food for the poor
KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Youth (B.Youth) and Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief organisation, joined forces over the weekend at Berjaya Times Square to organise their fourth charity meal-packing event in conjunction with World Food Day that was celebrated on Oct 16.
Berjaya Cares foundation donated RM100,000 for the event.
About 470 volunteers comprising B.Youth members, Berjaya Group staff and their families, worked to pack the food items.
Each meal pack consisted of rice, soy sauce, dehydrated vegetables and health supplements.
Volunteers worked in shifts to get the food packed and ready.
Some of meals will be sent to the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu to be distributed to flood victims in Kota Belud, Sabah, and to communities in the interior areas.
MyKasih Foundation, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and Alliance Chin Refugees are among the organisations that will distribute the packed meals to the needy.
“It is uplifting to see so many volunteers and Berjaya staff coming together to lend support for a charity event. Many are repeat volunteers from previous programmes, which goes to show that many people want to help the needy and make an impact,” said Berjaya Group Corporate Communications senior general manager Judy Tan.
BCorp Bhd chairman and CEO Datuk Seri Robin Tan also attended the event.
