JOHOR BARU: Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin took DAP’s Senai state assemblyman Wong Shu Qi ( pix) to task yesterday for allegedly attempting to undermine the state administration over a land conversion scandal.

During his winding-up speech at the state assembly, Mohamed Khaled said he and other state excos had met with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers in the case involving the conversion of bumiputra housing lots to public lots.

On April 19, former state executive councillor Datuk Abdul Latif Bandi was charged with 33 counts of graft involving a total of RM30 million for allegedly aiding the illegal conversion of the lots for disposal at higher prices.

In reference to a witness statement mentioned by Wong in the state assembly on Nov 27, Mohamed Khaled said he has no knowledge of such a document.

He added that a witness statement does not amount to a confession.

Mohamed Khaled said Wong had used a leaked document, and used it selectively for her own purposes.

He said Wong’s actions were irresponsible and unethical, adding that he would refer her to the relevant authorities for further action.

Mohamed Khaled also said he would take legal action against those who spread slander and speculation on the matter.

It was reported earlier that Wong said she had information from a website, allegedly implicating the mentri besar in the land conversion scandal.

Speaking to reporters later, following Mohamed Khaled’s winding-up speech, Wong said Pakatan Harapan members were not satisfied with his response to the issue.

She said the Opposition has proposed a Royal Commission of Inquiry be set up to investigate the case.
