Tolerance, respect vital for all, says Tuanku Muhriz

SEREMBAN: The Yang diPertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir said yesterday it was important everyone, regardless of religion or race, to have tolerance and respect for one another.

“Respect is earned, not demanded. If we do not respect people, they will not respect us. I’m glad to be at an event where I can be with the people of all races,” he said at a luncheon in conjunctio­n with his 70th birthday and the Chinese New Year celebratio­ns here.

Tuanku Muhriz was accompanie­d by Tunku Ampuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud and their sons, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin and Tunku Datuk Seri Zain Al-’Abidin.

On arrival, the royal family was greeted by Negri Sembilan Chinese Assembly Hall adviser Tan Sri Lim Huah Leong and MCA National Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

The highlight of the event, which was attended by 1,000 guests, was the “loh sang” by Tuanku Muhriz, VIPs and guests.

Guests were also entertaine­d to a traditiona­l Chinese dance performanc­e by the Guang Dong Clan Associatio­n.

Tuanku Muhriz later presented ang pow to 200 needy children and senior citizens.

Lim described Tuanku Muhriz as a ruler who is concerned with the people’s wellbeing and often got down to the ground to meet them.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to Tuanku Muhriz and Tunku Ampuan Besar for attending the luncheon to celebrate his birthday and the Chinese New Year, held for the first time in Negri Sembilan.” – Bernama
