Camerons seat up to PM to decide
PETALING JAYA: All political parties should leave it to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to decide who should be the parliamentary candidate for the Cameron Highlands seat, said myPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas.
He said he had started working in Cameron Highlands since September 2015 to get close to the people there, adding that he had spent his own money and did not ask Barisan Nasional (BN) for any handouts.
“I did all this out of my loyalty to BN and my desire to get close to the people. I did not take into consideration race, religion or political affiliation when carrying out my work.
“Cameron Highlands is close to my heart as I was born there and still have family members there. Nearly everyone there knows the work I have done, even the 7,500 orang asli voters,” Kayveas said in response to a statement by MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam that the seat should remain with MIC.
Subramaniam had also said he will ask Najib to allow MIC to have the seat.
Kayveas said the most important thing for him is to ensure that BN wins the seat, adding that Cameron Highlands is a very unique seat because of its social and political diversity.
