Demolition of toll booths under way

-

SHAH ALAM: The work to demolish the Batu Tiga toll plaza, which ended its operation early this year, is being carried out.

A check by the theSun found that two toll booths on the left side from the Kuala Lumpur direction have already been demolished.

Malaysian Highway Authority Director-General Datuk Ismail Md Salleh said the demolition process was going according to schedule.

“We began the tender process in January and the work was supposed to start after the Chinese New Year holidays,” he said.

Work is expected to be completed by end of next month.

Ismail also dismissed rumours that demolition work had speeded up following the second accident that claimed two lives on Monday night.

PLUS highway managing director Datuk Azman Ismail, in a statement, said the work will be done in stages.

Work began in January with the relocation of toll equipment, signage as well as other assets. This was carried out from Jan 22 to Feb 8.

“Traffic management and lane closures began on Tuesday.”

Azman also urged road users to adhere to the sign boards and alerts when approaching the toll plaza.

Toll collection at the Batu Tiga and Sg Rasau toll plazas was abolished at midnight on Jan 1.
