> Genting Group celebrates inaugural Founder’s Day in a big way

-

THE Genting Group celebrated its inaugural Founder’s Day on Feb 28 in commemoration of the lifelong legacy of its founder, the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, .

A date that would have marked the 100th birthday of the group’s founder, Feb 28 will now bear significance to the Genting Group, marking its annual Founder’s Day celebration.

This year, the celebration began with a dinner reception held for 1,500 guests and employees at Hotel Istana in Kuala Lumpur. Among the guests were Genting Berhad deputy chairman Tun Hanif Omar, board members and the president of the Genting Group, as well as a host of corporate leaders from various public listed companies and multinationals in the country.

“A decade after his passing, it is timely and fitting that we remember our founder’s legacy and the core values that has been proven invaluable for the growth of the Genting Group,” said Genting Group chairman and chief executive Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay.

The core values Lim referred to are “hard work”, “honesty”, “harmony”, “loyalty” and “compassion”.

“By celebrating Founder’s Day every Feb 28, we humbly remind ourselves that these values are wise and enduring, reliable and proven,” Lim said.

A commemorative plaque inscribed with the core values was endorsed by Lim and witnessed by the directors of Genting Group, Genting Berhad, Genting Malaysia Berhad and Genting Plantations Berhad.

Further demonstrating Genting’s charitable spirit, and one of the late founder’s notable traits, the Genting Group announced plans of its new community initiative project – a Dementia Care Centre aimed to raise the standards of care for individuals stricken with the degenerative disease while providing support and training to their caregivers and families.

An MoU was signed between the Genting Group and the University of Malaya on the collaboration to establish this centre of which Lim’s wife, Puan Sri Cecilia Lim, will be the patron.

All did not end here. In annual tradition during the Chinese New Year season, Genting Malaysia makes donations.

This year, the company presented RM10,000 to each of 14 charitable homes and organisations.

Their representatives were present at the dinner to receive the contributions.
