‘Promotion delayed due to probe’
> IGP denies rumours Wan Ahmad is on leave
KUALA LUMPUR: The promotion of Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd (pix) had been stalled temporarily due to the police internal investigation over the RM1 million that was banked into his Australian bank account by third parties which was allegedly used to fund his children’s education.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun denied rumours claiming that Wan Ahmad Najmuddin is already on leave pending an ongoing probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission into the matter.
“The public and media should also be fair to the CID director. He was investigated by the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department in 2016.
“At the time of investigation, Wan Ahmad Najmuddin’s promotion to Commissioner of Police was stalled or delayed momentarily.
“His matter was investigated thoroughly, and he was cleared of any wrongdoing,” he told reporters after attending a rank pinning ceremony at the Bukit Aman police headquarters yesterday.
Mohamad Fuzi also revealed that the director had been cleared of any criminal offences relating to the money seized from his bank account in Australia.
He said he was informed of this development by his counterpart in Australia.
“Their investigations showed there was no criminal element in Wan Ahmad Najmuddin’s case.”
On another matter, police have sent the investigation papers on allegations made by entrepreneur Kogee Sinniah against police mistreatment and harassment by three road bullies to the Attorney- General’s Chambers for the next course of action.
Mohamad Fuzi said the trio, who were arrested two days ago, have been released on bail.
Police on Tuesday arrested the three youths to facilitate investigations into the case.
