I won’t be silenced, Teng tells Guan Eng

> Vows not to be cowed by CM’s legal move

- BY EDMUND LEE

GEORGE TOWN: Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow said he will not be silent on Penang’s undersea tunnel project despite being served with a writ of summons by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Teng, who is also Penang Gerakan chairman, said he will not be cowed by Lim’s legal move as the public have the right to know the details of the project. “I will continue to bring this issue up to explain to the people during the election campaign period.”

In a press conference held at state Gerakan headquarters yesterday, Teng had both his hands tied with duct tape, catching pressmen off guard.

The duct tape was to show the state’s action in shutting him up on the project. “It is symbolic as to how I am being prevented from speaking on the tunnel issue.”

This is not the first such stunt by Teng as he had taped his mouth during a press conference after being sued for defamation by Lim on the Pulau Jerejak issue two years ago.

Teng also took a dig at Lim for dancing to the tune of a parody of Goods and Services Tax (GST) song in the presence of children at an event in Penang.

He said it was unbecoming of a leader to involve children in politics.

“They (Opposition) totally have no idea on what GST is all about,” he said about the video clip of the act which has gone viral on social media.

The parody song was a hit among netizens. It featured Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching singing the song to mock the tax.

Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim, in defending the song, said it is a fact that people are burdened by GST.
