UTC for Teluk Intan

> Najib also announces construction of 500 PPR units

TELUK INTAN: Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak announced some good news for the people of Teluk Intan – the setting up of an urban transformation centre (UTC) and the construction of 500 units under the People’s Housing Project (PPR).

He said the UTC was a popular initiative of the government and these facilities had recorded almost 70 million visitors thus far.

“There is a bright future for UTCs, unlike the (proposed) Penang tunnel where there is no light yet at the end of it,” he said in jest.

Najib said the PPR houses in Teluk Intan would be developed in two phases, with 250 units in each phase.

“I leave it to the state government and the (incoming) MP to find a suitable location,” he said at the ground-breaking for the 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) project here.

The prime minister said the people in Penang had been cheated because there was more hillslope development now than during the period of the Barisan Nasional state government under Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon as the chief minister who had maintained the environment well.

He also said the DAP-led Penang government had promised not to raise water tariffs but had done so four times. At another event, Najib hit out at former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for having made four U-turns in his statements and blaming the economy for the winding up of his bakery. He said Mahathir had changed his statements on the closure of The Loaf four times in two weeks and put the blame on the government. “He does not listen to anyone anymore and says one thing today and another the next day, as in the case of his bakery when he made four statements in two weeks. “At first, he said the bakery belongs to him, then he said it is not his, after which he said he wants to sell it and, lastly, he admits that it’s his. “At the Registrar of Companies, it is stated that he has 10 million shares (in the bakery) and holds a 50% equity. Let’s not play politics like this. Do not make baseless accusations. Never mind, that’s between him and God,” he said. – Bernama
