‘David vs Goliath’ in Puchong seat?
> Gerakan state chairman confident of wresting seat from Gobind
PUCHONG: Gerakan is all geared up to make inroads into DAP territory in Puchong if Barisan Nasional (BN) endorses its candidate for the seat.
Confirming its candidates for the Puchong parliamentary seat and three other state seats, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said Selangor state chairman Datuk David Ang Chin Tat will contest in the DAP stronghold.
He said Bukit Lanjan coordinator Syed Abdul Razak Syed Long, Teratai coordinator Ben Liew Pok Boon and Bukit Gasing coordinator Chai Ko Thing will be contesting in their respective state seats.
“I have confidence in this parliamentary seat and the three state seats in Selangor, which Gerakan wishes to contest in.
“We have given the final candidates list to the BN central leadership and we are confident that it would be accepted,” Mah told a press conference at the party’s Puchong operations centre yesterday.
He said in the last elections, Gerakan was given the same seats to contest.
“There is also another state seat in the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency, which we would like to contest in.
“We have submitted that request as well and hope that it would be accepted,” Mah said without naming the seat.
It is learnt that Gerakan is eyeing the Kota Kemuning state seat in the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency.
Mah stressed that the unity among the component parties in Puchong is strong and reiterated his confidence in taking over the seat, held by incumbent Gobind Singh Deo for two terms.
“Although in the last round the result was not so good, the component parties have increased cooperation in working hard on the ground. “It won’t be easy but we have a fighting chance,” Mah said.
Ang, who was also present, said that he was happy to be given the opportunity and is confident of wresting Puchong from DAP.
“It will certainly be like a David versus Goliath battle against (incumbent Gobind) but I will let the people judge and I will reveal what I can do for the people of Puchong in my manifesto,” he said.
