JOHOR BARU: A policeman was arrested after an Indonesian woman claimed that he had allegedly raped her at a budget hotel on Tuesday.

The woman had gone to the Skudai police station to seek help following “issues” with her employer.

The 24-year-old victim had wanted to quit her job as a maid with her employer.

She said her friend, a local, had suggested that she lodge a police report at the station to retrieve her passport from her employer.

Sources said when the victim was at the station at 1am to lodge a report, a policeman had offered to follow her back to her employer’s house in Bukit Indah to help her retrieve her passport.

On the way to the employer’s house, the victim claimed the policeman stopped at a budget hotel and tried to solicit sex with her.

He threatened her saying that he would not take her to her employer’s house if she did not give in to his demands.

Fearing for her safety, the woman relented and followed him to the hotel where she claimed she was raped.

She lodged a police report at the Senai district police headquarters on the same day. The policeman was subsequently arrested.

Police have sent a forensic team to examine the scene of the incident, and are also checking if the policeman had any disciplinary problems.

A closed-circuit television footage at the hotel confirmed that they were there at the time of the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
