China Mobile Malaysia to widen reach in enterprise
PETALING JAYA: China Mobile International Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CMI Malaysia) which has been providing telecommunicationrelated connectivity services to carriers, is looking to grow contributions and expand its reach in the enterprise segment of its operations.
The group, which has had a footing in Malaysia for two years, provides telecommunications data services such as roaming, IP Transit and cable capacity out of China and Hong Kong, to major telcos in the country.
As for the enterprise segment it provides cloud services,software-defined widearea network(SD-WAN) and ICT solutions among others to businesses across various industries.
According to country head Hew Chee Chung, with a 70% revenue contribution, its telecommunication service segment contributes to the bulk of its earnings, while the enterprise segment’s contribution stood at 30%.
Going forward, CMI Malaysia is looking to even out the contributions from both segments.
“We are still in the initial days and we are very focused on the carrier segment of the business. In terms of customer base there is also carrier and enterprise,” Hew said at the China Mobile International Malaysia Enterprise Solution Forum 2018 yesterday.
This year it is going to change … enterprise is going to increase to 50-50,” he added.
CMI, which is targeting to attract enterprise customers from various industries, currently focuses on industry such as education, healthcare and financial services which also includes outfits of Chinabased companies.
Hew said the group is currently studying the feasibility of setting up an internet data centre in Malaysia.
Adding that it is only in the last few years, that the Hong Kong-headquartered group had started looking at locations outside of China and Hong Kong to set up internet data centres, Hew revealed that the upcoming centres will be in London, the US and Singapore, which is slated to be completed next year.
CMI Malaysia is part of China Mobile International which is the largest telecom operator in the world by network scale and subscriber base, and is among the top in terms of market capitalisation and brand value.
