‘Don’t resent not being nominated’

-

IPOH: Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there should not be any resentment if one is not nominated as an election candidate.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman said those chosen were nominated after a final decision by caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, in his capacity as BN chairman.

“If there are problems, measures need to be taken to resolve them,” he said during an event yesterday to announce Perak BN candidates.

“I don’t want to see or hear of any such incidents at any polling or registration centres. All those involved must solve the problem among themselves and it must be put aside.”

After confirming that he will contest for the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat, Ahmad Zahid said efforts should be taken not only to retain existing seats but to achieve more, adding that Perak BN needed to win more than a two-third majority.

He is expected to be in a fourcornered fight with candidates from Pakatan Harapan, PAS and an independent.

In GE13, Ahmad Zahid defeated PKR candidate Madhi Hasan with a majority of 2,108 votes.

On April 17, Datuk Ibrahim Mat Zin, 68, better known as Raja Bomoh, announced his intention to contest in the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate while PAS will field Ata Abdul Muneim Hasan Adli.

Pakatan Harapan has yet to announce its candidate for Bagan Datuk.

Perak BN chairman and caretaker mentri besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, who announced the list of candidates at his official residence, said Perak BN will contest in 24 parliamentary and 59 state seats. – Bernama
